Try the Syrp Genie II for Your Next Timelapse

Motion effects in video and timelapse have never been easier thanks to slick tools like the Syrp Genie. With simplified setups and good portability, motion controllers and sliders are a great addition to your project – especially for timelapses. Introducing slow movements in your footage just adds to the overall sense of space and time compared to a static timelapse.

How to Get Dynamic Footage from Your Timelapse

To show you how this is done, we used the Syrp Genie II motion control head on the Magic Carpet Pro slider. The Syrp Genie has a built-in intervalometer that allows you to easily dial in your number of exposures, the duration, and motion settings.

You could also shoot continuous video and speed it up in post production. With this method, you don’t have to set up the intervalometer. You set up your key frames in the Syrp app, which will then tell the slider/head when to execute a certain move. You don’t have to use the app if you don’t want to, though. The integrated joystick and screen on the device itself allows you to quickly reposition your shot.

The Syrp Genie II is compatible nearly any slider but in this case we used the Magic Carpet Pro, which is a 3′ portable slider with a weighted flywheel and breaking carriage. Our Syrp Genie rental comes with both the motorized pan/tilt head and the linear head for full 3-axis control. The linear head also features a unique rope drive system for mounting on a dolly, cable cam, or even a skateboard.
